Former President Ronald Reagan discusses immigration reform, amnesty, and the plight of undocumented workers. ...And to think, those lunatics who want to close the borders and kick out everyone with darker skin than theirs and then turn around and hail like a god, a man who said with all the passion in his heart "I believe in Amnesty for those who have put down roots and who have lived here, even though sometime back, they may have entered illegally." How I wish the Republican party was half as like Reagan as they think they are. He'd be disgusted by them now. They'd call him a Democrat or Rhino. “Reagan, who raised taxes over and over again, and tripled the deficit. He couldn’t win this nomination of President on the conservative side in 2011-2012".
Candidates Ronald Reagan & George Bush-41 Discuss Illegal Immigration in 1980 Debate. The candidates are asked a question about the children of Illegal Immigrants attending public schools in 1980...and both give reasonable answers that the Tea Party Republicans would call un-patriotic and anti-conservative.
On May 30th, 2011, the Liberty Foundation brought its B-17 to Saint Paul, Minnesota. *The restored Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Liberty Belle” crashed and burned in a cornfield outside of Chicago Monday June 13th, 2011 but the seven people on board escaped without serious injury, according to the Chicago Tribune. The pilot made an emergency landing after reporting an engine fire, the Tribune reported. Photos from the scene show the plane broken and burned. The Liberty Foundation’s B-17 was one of several that fly around the country, giving tours. It was built under contract by Lockheed toward the end of World War II and never saw any combat. The Liberty Foundation’s Don Brooks bought the plane at the turn of the century, painting it in the colors and nose art of a namesake B-17 that flew many missions with the 8th Air Force’s 390th bomb group, including missions with Brooks’ father as tail gunner. Flying in a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is a fun, if loud experience, when the trip is a joyride over Seattle. It’s harder to imagine a 10-hour bombing mission over Nazi Germany 65 years ago. “It all comes back,” Retired Boeing B-17 tail gunner Ted Gary, of Burien, said shortly before boarding the Liberty Foundation’s B-17, “Liberty Belle” Monday. “You try to forget it for 60-some years and now you recall so much of it. It’s amazing.” Liberty Belle bears plenty of reminders of her deadly purpose, including .50-caliber machine guns, with ammo, bombs in the bay and a bomb sight, with crosshairs, in the nose. But the nose also is a great place to look out over downtown Seattle, Green Lake and Elliott Bay. Press your head up against the Plexiglas and it’s almost as if there’s no plane at all, if you can block out the noise. The authenticity has its limits, as exemplified by the Garmin navigation system on the flight deck. “During the war, they were black and white,” pilot John Shuttleworth deadpanned. Liberty Belle was built under contract by Lockheed toward the end of World War II and never saw any combat. The Liberty Foundation’s Don Brooks bought the plane at the turn of the century, painting it in the colors and nose art of a namesake B-17 that flew many missions with the 8th Air Force’s 390th bomb group, including missions with Brooks’ father as tail gunner. Liberty Belle is one of 14 World War II Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers still flying and the most recently restored. The plane’s door bears signatures from all the veterans she has met through the Liberty Foundation, said Scott Maher, the foundation’s director of operations. “We’re losing 1,500 World War II veterans a day, and this airplane’s out for them.” Bad memories wouldn’t keep Gary and fellow World War II veterans off the flight. in fact, Gary got to take up his old post for a previous trip from Seattle to Spokane. “I flew over Mount Rainier in the tail. It reminded me of flying over the Alps,” he recalled. “We got off course and the Swiss started shooting at us.” The Swiss weren’t trying to shoot them down, just correct their path, he added. Flying around the Space Needle evoked a more pleasant memory. “The pilot used to let me practice flying,” Gary said. “I flew a 360-degree turn around the Eiffel Tower.” Helen Dowsett, of Puyallup, never flew in a B-17 before Monday. But she built plenty of B-17 wings during Wold War II, in a converted ice arena in Tacoma. “That’s a rivet off of a plane in 1945,” she said, holding up what now serves as a zipper pull. “The ride was very easy,” Dowsett said after the flight. “My husband, he was in the 82nd Airborne. … He said he felt uncomfortable flying without a parachute.” -------- My Uncle James was a tail-gunner for a B-17 during WWII. He passed away last year. Amazing generation. Amazing planes they flew. Built to last. We can never thank Our Veterans and those that support them enough.
Republicans like Mitt Romney wanted to let Detroit go Bankrupt. Who Saved Michigan and the American Auto Worker, Who Wanted it to Fail? June 2nd, 2011, in a speech officially announcing his candidacy for President (again), Mitt Romney declared that our country is inches away from no longer being a free-market economy and accused President Obama of having "failed America." Funny thing about that. Back on November 18th, 2008, Mitt Romney wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times, in which he rather explicitly recommended that Detroit's Big Three automakers be allowed to fail. In fact, he made a prediction. He said that if the not-yet-inaugurated new president gave the automakers a bailout, he would be assuing their doom. Here is how Romney started his essay: "If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye." Romney advocated a managed bankruptcy with no check from the government. In other words, despite his stated belief that this would save the auto industry, he was recommending that all of the Big Three's assets be sold in a fire-sale and that cars be made somewhere else and that autoworkers find new jobs in the worst recession since the 1930's. Our President did force two of the Big Three into a managed bankruptcy, but he also provided the capital Chrysler and General Motors needed to survive. Here's how Joe Biden's former chief of staff Ron Klain puts it: "Of all the policy challenges I saw President Obama tackle in my two years in the White House, none was more complex than turning around the U.S. auto industry... ...Even the sickest of the Big Three, Chrysler, whose problems in the spring of 2009 seemed so intractable that the White House gave serious consideration to letting the company go under, posted a $116 million profit for the first quarter of this year and paid back its federal loans six years early. Perhaps most importantly, the auto industry announced in May that it has begun to hire again, a feat that would have been deemed impossible two years ago." Mitt Romney's father was the governor of Michigan back in the 1960's. He was even a presidential contender until he killed his candidacy by admitting to having been "brainwashed" on Vietnam. The younger Romney was born in Michigan. But, if he had had his way we could have just shuttered the doors on the Great Lakes State and turned out the lights, because without the auto industry, Michigan wouldn't be a state worth maintaining in the Union. If Mitt Romney goes on to win the Republican nomination and face the president in the fall of 2012, I hope the voters of Michigan and the rest of America see an unending loop of that New York Times headline. "Who saved Michigan? Who wanted it to fail?" This should disqualify Romney from ever winning anything. Except perhaps the Republican Presidential Nomination. Bring him on. God bless America and the American Auto Worker! User Comment from Youtube- I guess the birther issue was just too hot for him to touch, so he figured he'd go with the good ole Birch Society socialist charge. Back to basics, boring as always. Mitt Romney has the charisma of a potato. Not that he has admitted we humans may have contributed to Climate Change he's done anyway. The only question is who does he endorse? And who wants that endorsement? :)
